Anthony Eboney Davis
Former Council President Anthony Eboney Davis is a humanitarian, historian and an author. A man who has dedicated his life to providing service to his family, his Alma Mater, his Community, and the City of Paterson New Jersey, Davis was an elected official for 18 years Paterson’s first ever Vice President evolved into a two term Council President and refused to take a third term as the City Council President.
Mr. Davis holds a Degree in Psychology Therapeutic Recreation from Cheyney University, counseling certifications from Temple University, Rugters University and the Family Institution in behavior modification. Davis worked in the states of Pennsylvania, Delaware, New York, and New Jersey in the field of social services for over 30 years. As a mental health counselor, a methadone maintenance forensic counselor, a family clinician case manager, and a college administrator/instructor.
At times Davis was a controversial Councilman attracting media attention for his crusades covering a variety of topics. In 2004- “Stop the Violence”, 2005-“Stop Snitching” T-Shirts, 2006- Curfew in Paterson, 2007-Ban the N-word, 2008- Ban the sagging pants and 2009-“Stop the Shooting” and most recently asking for more funds to help STOP this SENSELESS KILLING, DECLARING the city of Paterson New Jersey as a STATE of EMERGENCY resolution and The 2013 Big Endorsement to re-elect Republican Governor Chris Christie.
There are numerous accolades Councilman Davis has earned throughout his years; he also remains consistently supportive of the academic advancement and achievement of Paterson youth. Councilman Davis has made 150 Educational Scholarship Donations and has helped more than 2000 students enter College; with over 100 of them choosing his Alma Mater, Cheyney University.
In addition, Councilman Davis provides support and good counsel to the multitude of young males in his Community who are seeking a safe environment that encourages male bonding. His efforts are targeted to ensure the advancement of young males academically, and socially.
Councilman Davis expands his civic efforts by continuing to volunteer his time taking two or three buses of urban youth to Historically Black College & University with Cheyney being his first stop. Mr. Davis also feed the homeless in the Paterson Community, during Thanksgiving and Christmas. During his lifetime, he has courageously saved the lives of three individuals; two from drowning and one from a fire.
